<![CDATA[Walla Walla Quilt Festival]]>Sun, 12 Aug 2018 22:15:06 GMThttp://quiltingismybliss.com/blog/walla-walla-quilt-festivalI have an awesome announcement! I'm going to be the featured National Quilt Artist at the Walla Walla Valley Quilt Festival on September 14 - 16, 2018. This show has so much meaning to me as this is the town where my quilting journey began! The town is loaded with amazingly talented quilters who will also be showing off their hard work. There will many quilt shop vendors there for you to get some new fabric for more quilts. I don't know about you but who doesn't need more fabric?

I will be giving two demonstration/lectures each day and demoing quilting on an Innova Longarm thanks to my friends at Boersma's Sewing Center in McMinville, Oregon. If you have ever wanted to try out the Innova I will gladly let you give it a test drive! This is the machine I quilt on and I absolutely love it.

I will have many of my quilts to share and some of my Longarm Quilting Workbooks available for purchase. Please see below for show times and location.

Please join me! I can't wait to see you.

Happy Quilting!

<![CDATA[OH, Scrap! by Lissa Alexander]]>Fri, 23 Mar 2018 18:32:37 GMThttp://quiltingismybliss.com/blog/oh-scrap-by-lissa-alexanderUpdate! We have a winner for the Oh, Scrap e-book. Congratulations to Mary Kolb. Thank you everyone for participating in the blog hop for Lissa's new book. Hello! Today it is my turn on the blog hop to share a new book by Lissa Alexander titled OH, Scrap! Lissa has done a tremendous job putting together several quilts that you can make with just your scraps. Lets be honest...we all have a little corner of scraps that we just can't get rid of. Maybe your favorite fabrics that you just can't toss or donate to someone else. I'm terrible about using my scraps as I hate to figure out what I should make with them. This book has it all figured out for you! These pictures are courtesy of Martingale Publishing.
I had the pleasure of quilting one of the quilts in this book. It's Called Splendid Scraps.
Here are a couple detailed shots I took of the quilting before I sent it back. Such a great use of color.
If you love to use your scraps I highly recommend this book. These quilts are not only pretty to look at...but easy to make! Nice clear instructions which always makes it a pleasure to sit down and do what we all love to do. Sew! Please take the time to go back and look at all the blog hop participants.

<![CDATA[Longarm Quilting with Confidence]]>Wed, 21 Feb 2018 21:00:08 GMThttp://quiltingismybliss.com/blog/longarm-quilting-with-confidenceHappy Wednesday! I'm thrilled to share an article that has been posted at The Quilting Company website. It's called Longarm with Confidence and features excerpts from my new book Longarm Quilting Workbook. It shows motifs from my book and some tips to get you started free-motion quilting with confidence. Thank you Jodi Butler for the wonderful article.
This is a whole cloth quilt I made out of two large 108" backings...no piecing required! I used a 108" piece of Moda Bella Solid cut down to 80 x 80 and backed it with my favorite 108" Tula Pink Free Fall fabric in creamsicle. I used one layer of Quilters Dream Wool for the batting and it gave it such a great texture.
Here are some progress shots of how I started my whole cloth. I started on the upper left corner of my fabric and quilted left to right. No marking and just basted down the sides as I rolled the quilt.

All loaded up with my blank slate and ready to create.

First I quilted a feather going from the left to right. These feathers continued wrapping in rows for my entire quilt. I just continued making the feather each time I rolled the fabric.

The pictures above show how I added fillers to both the top and bottom of the feather. As you can see, every inch of this top was quilted with some kind of filler. Lots of fun space to practice new and old designs. My favorite!
I just quilted from the heart and let this piece come to life. The only consistent motif I had in the entire whole cloth piece were the feathers running through it. It was very simple to make and I had so much fun quilting it out. No marking at all! I encourage you to just load up some fabric and have some fun. You will be amazed at where it takes you and no worries about ruining a quilt top you spent a ton of time sewing.

If you would like to purchase an autographed copy of my book just click the shop tab. I'll send one right out.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a fantastic day. Go quilt something fun!

<![CDATA[Free-Motion Quilting Feathers by Natalia Bonner]]>Mon, 05 Feb 2018 22:04:28 GMThttp://quiltingismybliss.com/blog/free-motion-quilting-feathers-by-natalia-bonnerToday I would love to give a shout out to my friend and fellow longarm quilter Natalia Bonner. She has written several books on longarm quilting and is a super talented free-motion quilter. I've been following her work for many years and actually have a quilt she custom quilted for me many years ago. When I decided I wanted to longarm quilt I asked her questions and she was so sweet to answer them for me and she has always been so encouraging. You can tell she loves to share her love of quilting with everyone. She blogs over at Piece N Quilt and shares so many beautiful quilts she does.

I wanted to talk about her latest book Visual Guide to Free-Motion Quilting Feathers published by CT Publishing.
This book is loaded with different ways to use the feather design. The designs can be done both on a domestic sewing machine or a longarm. She breaks down different shapes and borders to show you how different ways to use feathers in your quilting design.
Here are a few more gorgeous pictures I took from her Instagram page! Her feed is loaded with tons of inspiration and so is this book. Here are some more examples of how she uses feathers in a fun modern way.
I highly recommend you check out her book. It's a great resource for someone who wants to expand on their quilting designs and take their quilting to a new level.

Thanks for stopping by and Happy Quilting!

<![CDATA[Blog Hop - Day 1 - Longarm Quilting Workbook]]>Wed, 27 Sep 2017 23:15:00 GMThttp://quiltingismybliss.com/blog/blog-hop-day-1-longarm-quilting-workbookWelcome to the first day of the Blog Hop for my new book Longarm Quilting Workbook. I’m excited to have so many awesome people helping me review this book and help share some of the information from the book.

We will also have prizes! Lots of prizes, thanks to some very generous donations from Free Spirit/Westminister Fabrcs, United Notions/Moda Fabrics, Quilters Dream Batting, and Superior threads. I will also be giving away copies of my book and a beautiful whole cloth quilt.

I thought I would start this blog hop off with a couple pictures of some of the whole cloth quilts I made for this book. These were so fun to make and I give some detailed instructions how you can re-create some of these or hopefully inspire you to make something you equally love! They are very fun to make and a great way to practice your new motifs you learn in this book.

This first quilt is one of my favorites from the book. This is called Medallion Stars Lap Quilt. As you can see, I pretty much did every motif I could think of on this quilt. I marked the stars out and pretty much just made it up as I went. It was so fun to create.
Scalloped Center Table Runner was created on a beautiful piece of Moda Bella Solid in yellow (Sorry I don't remember the exact color). For this quilt I really wanted a zig zag design to run in the background behind the scalloped center. It was easy to achieve and so fun to create. I tell you how to in Chapter 3 - Doodling and Drawing.
Doodle Table topper was created just by loading a solid piece of fabric and quilting from the heart! I highly recommend you first practice your designs on paper, then practice on fabric. What do you have to lose? It’s also a fun way to look back a year or two later and see how far you have come.
Okay...let's get down to business. Please follow along our blog hop until the very end and I'll tell you how to get signed up for these fabulous prizes and as an added bonus you will visit some very talented quilters along the way! Thank you again to Freespirt/Westminister Fabric, Moda/United Notions, Superior Threads and Quilters Dream Batting.

The Grand Prize winner will receive this awesome little package!

 • Tula Pink "Spirit Animal" Fat Quarter Bundle by Free Spirit Fabric
 • So Fine 50 Thread by Superior Threads - 2 cones
